Exciting games for entry-level computers

Looking for a new game to play but concerned that your PC or laptop won’t be able to run it? Look no further, since we’ve compiled a list of some of the greatest games that can be played on practically any computer setup, even low-spec PCs or entry-level laptops.

Most AAA titles today demand a top-of-the-line PC configuration to run well. However, advanced computing equipment may be prohibitively expensive, as many gamers are limited to basic PCs and laptops. But the finest games should keep you entertained for hours, whether you’re playing on a high performance custom-built PC or not, and gamers shouldn’t miss out on some outstanding titles that aren’t blockbusters like Call of Duty or Far Cry.

From newer indie titles like Oxenfree II to classic games like Civilization, these are a few popular video games that don’t require a huge amount of RAM or fancy graphics cards. But remember to check the system requirements before buying one of these titles.

Loop Hero

Developed by Russian studio Four Quarters and published by Devolver Digital, Loop Hero is an endless role-playing game released in 2021 for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting, featuring a procedurally-generated environment, in which players make changes to the world by “placing cards instead of directly controlling a character.”.

Loop Hero’s gameplay is multifaceted, and gives players the opportunity to influence a world rather than merely controlling a character. Players are required to lay down cards, create paths and roads, manage resources, and strategize for the future. Loop Hero is an awesome new game with graphics and soundtrack that takes us back to the SNES-era, and presents a deceptively simple challenge for those searching for a fun brain teaser.

Civilization series

Sid Meier’s Civilization series of turn-based strategy video games was originally launched in 1991, and established the 4X genre, in which players must “explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate”. With six core games, several expansion packs, and a slew of spin-off games, the series has since become a classic and one of the most popular simulation video games in the world.

Civilization VI, published in 2016 by 2K Games for Windows, macOS, Linux, and home consoles, is the most recent entry in the franchise. Despite improved visuals over its predecessors, the game should run well on low-end PCs and laptops.

In Civilization, players must construct an empire from prehistory to the near future by establishing cities and extending borders, studying technology, and negotiating with neighboring countries and empires. In most games of the series, victory is achieved by military conquest, attaining a specific degree of culture, or controlling the world map.

Table games

People love to gamble, and you certainly don’t need a strong computer to do it with. Table games are some of the most popular pastimes in the world, and many of them are available online. These games can be played on any browser or mobile device, and the selection of games is pretty large, with options ranging from roulette to classic games like blackjack, baccarat, and even craps. Last year, with lockdowns and social distancing measures in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these games soared in popularity, attracting players from all over the world.

These websites provide players with an authentic experience, featuring the same games and wagers as in traditional land-based venues. Some of them even claim to offer better odds than their real-life counterparts. There are also live dealer games, which are managed by professional croupiers and streamed to players, who are able to enjoy live dealer games and witness the whole gaming process.

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals

A sequel to the popular mind-bending 2016 indie release by Night School Studio, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals is scheduled to be released this year for Windows, macOS, Linux, and home consoles. Oxenfree II is a mystery adventure game heavily based on coming-of-age movies, featuring a fully story-driven gameplay with no cutscenes.

According to the announcement by the developing studio, the game takes place five years after the original game, and features a new character, an environmental researcher named Riley, “who is returning to her hometown of Camena to investigate strange radio transmissions”. According to a leak from the PlayStation database, the game will be released on February 8th, but it was wrong and now we’re still waiting for the release date to be announced.
