Crysis 4 gets Ex-Hitman 3 game director

Crysis 4

Mattias Engström, who has worked on Hitman 3 and Far Cry 3, will be taking director lead for Crysis 4.

Crytek announced Mattias Engström as the game director for the anticipated title, though we still don’t know much about the upcoming sequel.

“We are happy to announce that Mattias Engström, known for his work as Game Director for Hitman 3 at IO Interactive, joins the Crysis family as Game Director for the 4th installment in the Crysis franchise, starting this week,” the developer said.

Crysis 4 was only recently announced, a good 9 years after the release of Crysis 3. At the time, they stated that the game was still in the early stages of development.

Engström has previously served as Hitman 3’s game director for IO Interactive and he also has being the level designer of Far Cry 3 to his resume. Considering his work on more open ended titles, this could serve as a hint for what is to come for the still mostly unknown sequel to the popular franchise.

Little is known about the sequel. The fact that their game director hiring is only just now being announced means their statement on the game being early in the development cycle is more than true. It would not be unfair to assume the game will not be releasing for a year or two at the very least.

What do you think of this news? Hitman 3 was a well received title when it launched last year. This includes being awarded many accolade and has been considered by many publications to be one of the best video games of the year for 2021.
