January 24, 2017 at 11:10 pmI’m genuinely surprised that Arms is already on the list even so before launch.
Is early word of mouth that good?

January 24, 2017 at 11:30 pmSkullgirls not already being in the main lineup despite having a dedicated base after all these years…

January 24, 2017 at 11:31 pmHonestly, I’d like to see Windjammers, Nidhogg, Arms or even Pokken. Something beyond the normal stuff.

January 24, 2017 at 11:38 pmI really want Skullgirls to be mainline.

January 24, 2017 at 11:52 pmNidhogg is on the voting list too. They probably just ran out of games they could think of.
I’m more upset Lethal League isn’t there.

January 24, 2017 at 11:54 pmIt’s a bit strange having 2 Smash Bros games in the main line-up, but they likely bring the views. I’m glad that KOFXIV is on there – the game is awesome and could use some exposure.

January 25, 2017 at 12:45 am>Injustice 2
Fuck, I didn’t realize it was going to be ready in time for this year’s EVO. I thought I was safe from a shitty WB game taking up a slot.
At least KoF XIV made it.

January 25, 2017 at 3:52 amThey have games like Nidhogg (an indie game nobody knows) and Windjammers (a sports game) but no Dead or Alive? Are they serious?

January 25, 2017 at 12:01 pmI don’t understand competitive smash. I’d much rather see some randomness in the form of items, or teams, or modifiers being allowed in what has been described by its creator as a party game. The way it’s played at EVO is just not interesting to me.

January 25, 2017 at 1:10 pmSmash bros is not a fighting game.
Mr0303
January 25, 2017 at 2:11 pmI get the appeal of the chaotic party game, but it clashes with the balance. This is why Smash is not a typical fighting game. My guess is that fans of the series wanted the EVO exposure.

January 25, 2017 at 8:52 pmThis is by far one of the best EVO line-ups i’ve seen in recent years, all the big Fighting Game Franchises are there (Well, with the exception of Injustice 2), I hope that Marvel VS Capcom get the 9th spot

January 25, 2017 at 10:18 pmthe smash community has tried items before, they always get turned off later
the average people who play, the top level players who are worth watching play, and the majority of viewers support them being off
a chaotic match can be “fun” but once you’re at that level where a single mistake can cost you a game, where both players are doing their best after training and optimizing all their options, seeing a match decided by RNG can be frustrating and disappointing for everyone involved from players to viewers
nothing kills hype as much as seeing a great player rise through a tourney, looking like he has a great shot at winning it all, made the right choices through a whole match, didn’t drop a combo, his spacing on point, was on his way to victory and next is grand finals and a rematch with the guy who sent him to losers bracket, the perfect conditions for an exciting match
then 3 pokeballs with legendaries spawn next to the opponent and he gets wrecked and he’s out of the tournament

January 26, 2017 at 11:21 amI get that, I just don’t get the mentality or desire to boil down the party game to its base points, taking it too far and too seriously. Fighting games and the rare arcade game are designed to be tight mechanically and competitive to the frame. Smash was never meant to be what it is now to those who play it as though it’s a fighting game. It’s the same thing to me as any other game taken seriously beyond what the design intended and in most cases allows for. Imagine competitive pachinko with two players and that’s how I look at smash; you can get really skilled at positioning, getting the physics right, making the right movement at the right time, but all the pegs are missing. I’m sure some people would be enthralled but to me you’re taking out most of what makes it interesting.

January 26, 2017 at 7:05 pmThis is probably the best analogy I have read for why smash is not a good competitive game. Thanks.
