Evil Dead Rise gets first trailer and it’s definitely spooky

Evil Dead Rise

New Line Cinema and Renaissance Pictures have shared the first trailer for Evil Dead Rise, the newest film in Sam Raimi’s cult classic horror franchise.

Written and directed by Irish lad Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground), produced by Bruce Campbell himself, the new film is set in a city, taking the franchise out of the woods.

Lily Sullivan (I Met a Girl, Barkskins) stars alongside Alyssa Sutherland (The Mist, Vikings), Morgan Davies (Storm Boy, The End), and Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence), while also introducing Nell Fisher (Northspur).

Here’s the first trailer for Evil Dead Rise:

The new take on the cult classic horror series is reminiscent of Fede Alvarez’s excellent 2013 Evil Dead remake, as both focus on pure intense terror while dropping the comedic bits from Sam Raimi’s films.

Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are producing alongside Robert Tapert, and Campbell noted he has been “very involved” with the new take on the series.

It’s worth noting Campbell will not make an appearance in the film as longtime series protagonist Ash Williams, however. The film is a new take with new characters and a new storyline, so only time will tell.

Evil Dead Rise will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and is set to open only in cinemas April 20th.
