Gravity Interactive has announced they’re shutting down the majority of their European servers that power the multitude of games running on their WarpPortal client, including Ragnarok Online and Ragnarok Online 2.

The news was announced via their official Facebook, where they confirmed the decision to axe their European servers was due to the new European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation being enacted, and going into law. This new regulation mandates better protection on server storage, as well as addresses the exporting of user data outside the EU.

All their game servers for the European region will be cut off on May 25th, and all WarpPortal access in other regions (like North America) will be IP blocked by region. If you made purchases within their games between February 1st and April 30th of this year, you’ll get a refund.

If you really need to get your Ragnarok Online fix and are unfortunately living somewhere in Europe, you can always try your luck with a VPN and just play the games via WarpPortal, or Ragnarok Online or Ragnarok Online 2 on Steam (the key being you disguise your IP to get access to their servers regardless), or one of the many private servers out there.
