European DLC Plans for Senran Kagura: Estival Versus Revealed

senran kagura estival versus 02-05-16-1

In a recent blog post, Marvelous Europe went over in detail about the various editions of Senran Kagura: Estival Versus and the DLC plans lined up for it.

They detail all the goodies that adopters of the Bahonkas Edition of the game will be receiving, including a two disc soundtrack, a dakimakura, specially designed box and several art cards.

On the software end, the game will be updated to the 1.17 version, which comes with a bunch of additional content and bug fixes. They also mentioned that Daidoji and RIn will be included in the game for free.

Ayame, Ayane, Naraku and Kagura will be available as paid content. They also plan to release more content in the forms of missions, costumes, Shinvoi Versus BGM tracks, accessories and hairstyles.

Sadly the Ikki Tousen characters that were released in Japan will remain a Japanese version exclusive. The reason for this is due to licensing issues.

Senran Kagura: Estival Versus is slated to release in Europe sometime in early 2016.

Well, that last part’s not all that surprising but is still a sad reality. At least that means the amount of characters between Nintendo and Sony isn’t so drastically lopsided.

This time I envy you Europeans it seems like you’re getting the better deal.

No ikkitousen? what a huge let down that was :(

Yep, was another crossover. Looks like they just couldn’t manage the licensing for Ikkitousen outside of Japan however.

It’s a shame that if this eventually comes to Steam it will likely be US only. That’s the kind of thing that could be modded in if there was another version with them included somewhere else.

This is the reason that I almost never play any US/Global FTP games. Almost none of these collaborations with other IP’s that those games are so big on ever make it to those versions.

But I find it a bit odd that the DOA character was easy to get but not the Ikki Tousen ones, is there really some US party holding that IP and demanding too much money for it over here? That’s almost a non existent IP here.

Pretty much the same in terms of dlc as far as I know. But we don’t get Dakimuras though. :(

I hope we get the 1.17 version in the west so we don’t have to waste time downloading a patch.

To be honest the Ikki Tousen characters were the ones I had little to no interest in. Shame for the people who wanted them though.

Still excited for the game and the collector’s edition.

My guess is that it was an apology to the fans in Europe, since we didn’t get a physical edition of Shinovi Versus. Despite that it was profitable enough to justify the physical copy and the bonus items.

Never heard of it but still I’d prefer more than less every time.

Think Senran Kagura but instead of lesbian ninjas they’re martial artists reincarnated from the three kingdoms period. And a shit ton more fanservice.

It kinda sucks that the Ikki Tousen characters wont be in the European ( and maybe the US) version of SK: EV, but at least they didnt pull a NoA / Treehouse move on the people who do want the characters. Licensing can be a bitch at times.

  15. Mr0303
    February 5, 2016 at 7:19 pm

To me that anime is a bad version of Senran Kagura. It solely relies on fanservice and the story, characters and battles are pretty shite. It has nipples though.

It’s more of an apology for all the japanese games we get digital only while the US gets retail, and because Marvelous is based in the UK, I hope they keep this up

If you look the manga there are some interesting battles. The plot could be better but there are some good battles.

I didn’t care for the characters themselves but their movesets were interesting. I wanted to give Sonsaku in particular a try.

  20. Mr0303
    February 5, 2016 at 9:20 pm

I just watched the first season of the anime and it didn’t have any memorable battles that I can think of. Perhaps they are better in the manga and they didn’t have resources to animate them.

  21. dsadsada
    February 5, 2016 at 9:24 pm

As long as there’s an IP holder then that’s just another person they’d have to deal with. XSeed’s small so I can see why they thought it wouldn’t be worth it, and Ikki Tousen’s license holder in the west might be a bit more difficult to deal with than Koei who owns the DOA characters.

Have XSeed and Koei worked on anything together before? If they have then that would make this particular deal easier to get.

  22. Carl619
    February 5, 2016 at 9:26 pm

You will see them when the story turns around the three kingdoms, there is more blood too. The anime and manga differs around the middle, but the best ones are in the manga.

  24. grgspunk
    February 5, 2016 at 11:29 pm

More like the fact that the Xseed has to produce more physical copies of the game for the US side, so they don’t have as much money to devote to making more lavish extras.

On the other hand, the Marvelous Europe doesn’t produce as many physical copies, so they can afford to put more extras. It also allows them to better afford doing marketing efforts. That’s why everything we’ve heard about this game comes from Marvelous Europe; Xseed outsourced the marketing of this game to them.

Shinovi Versus is the only time that’s happened, for what it’s worth. Both 3DS games and this have fared much, much better in Europe as far as special editions/physical versions.

  31. Soaringfalco
    February 6, 2016 at 1:41 am

I dont think that’s true there’s plenty of fans in the US. The the problem is when your a company lose Xseed and you localize a ton of games your bound to have wasted your resources to afford to localize the extra stuff while Xseed Europe barely localizes anything aside from Senran kagura, and some other games, so honestly we are more luckier than the European, no offense to European fans.

  43. evilmajikman

I think I need somebody to explain game licenses for anime/manga to me. I know Funimation has the license to Ikki Tousen in the US, but they also have DBZ, and Bamco was the one that released Xenoverse in the US. And I know the company that releases the Prison School manga isn’t Funimation. This whole thing seems like a headache.

  44. evilmajikman
    February 6, 2016 at 6:39 pm

There’s more than 2. You have Haruka, Yagyu, Imu, and Katsuragi. Ryobi, Asuka, and Homura might be. Ikaruga seems to be a bro-con. As far as I know other than that, they could all be asexual.

Sorry wrong you confusing fan service moments here

  46. evilmajikman
    February 7, 2016 at 2:56 am

No… Katsuragi grabs women’s tits. No straight woman does that. Just like no straight guy grabs dude’s dicks. That just doesn’t happen. And Katsuragi grabbing tits is in EVERY incarnation of her character. And then you have Yagyu and Haruka which in DIALOG are constantly having tug of war with Hibari as if Hibari was the star of a harem anime. Imu makes no secret that she’s head over heels for Miyabi. And the feeling seem to be mutual if the audio cd’s are anything to go by. And the Miyabi/Emi ship is heavily implied in both of their endings in Shinovi Versus. And there’s a ton of homosexual subtext for Asuka/Homura.

  48. evilmajikman
    February 7, 2016 at 2:10 pm

Katsuragi is the only character in the game that grabs boobs. If it was just a thing that women did in Japan, it wouldn’t be just her. “Boobs are not dicks” It’s called an ANALOGY. A straight woman wouldn’t sexually harass women just like a straight man wouldn’t sexually harass men.

Funimation has the license to the Ikki Tousen anime. The manga was licensed by TOKYOPOP under the name “Battle Vixens”. TOKYOPOP closed it’s American publishing operations in 2011, and all their manga licenses reverted back to the original owners. However they did announce that they’d like to restart their North American publishing operation in 2016. I’m not sure if they regained the licenses they lost. If the Ikki Tousen DLC is released here in the West, Funimation and TOKYOPOP (if they regained the license) might ask for a cut of any profits made since they own the publishing rights here in the States. Since Senran Kagura is more of a niche series, you can see where that might be a problem.

You know, a crazy idea just popped in my head. As a replacement for Ikki Tousen, maybe Marvelous and XSEED could cut a deal with RoosterTeeth and we could get Team RWBY as DLC characters here in the West. I know it will never happen, but wouldn’t it be awesome as all heck to see to see the most badass team of fighting femmes ever assembled take on our favorite busty ninja girls?
