Developer SCS Software announced Euro Truck Simulator 2’s Heart of Russia DLC has been delayed indefinitely.
According to developer, they were apparently weeks away from completing the new downloadable content when the Russian invasion of Ukraine occurred.
The ongoing war has caused many other companies to cut themselves off from Russia. In terms of the gaming industry, companies like Nintendo and Sony have halted sales to the country. Wargaming, the publishers of World of Tanks and World of Warships, shut down their operations in Russia due to the war.
So SCS Software’s decision to cancel their planned DLC continues a line of decisions made by multiple companies to either cut off their business with Russia in protest of the war or to avoid appearing they support the invasion. The latter being the case here.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 Heart of Russia delay
When developing our games we try to be as apolitical as possible, in a way shielding the global player audience from everyday controversies. We quite like the idea that our shared passion, for a truck simulation, allows people to connect, to pay a virtual visit to a neighbouring country in peace, and to enjoy a hobby that we commonly share, rather than allowing anything divisive to set us apart.
But since our DLC, Heart of Russia, directly concerns Russia, and with so many people suffering, we decided to refrain from releasing the DLC so that it is not perceived in any way as being in support of or tolerance of the aggression.
It’s interesting they decide to now delay the DLC for fear of appearing to support the invasion of Ukraine. Shortly after the invasion had occurred, they had created a Ukrainian paint job DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2 to raise money to support those affected by the conflict.
As of now it will be unknown when, or even if, the DLC will be released for Euro Truck Simulator 2. There is no time table for it’s release, but the developers say that they “will endeavor to find a way for our Heart of Russia DLC to play whatever part it can in that healing process, for everyone.”
