When Enhance Games announced a PC port for Tetris Effect, many fans were excited – until they learned the game is exclusive to the Epic Games Store. Now, we’ve learned a big component of the game is actually only accessible with Epic’s competitor – Steam.
The game is virtual reality enabled, and supports both the Oculus Rift and the Vive, however it requires Steam VR to access the VR mode (via DSOGaming).
The official Epic FAQ claims otherwise, saying Oculus VR doesn’t require the Steam API, however the company later reached out and noted the Tetris Effect FAQ states the game requires Steam VR for both Oculus and Vive.
“Tetris Effect VR does require SteamVR, both on HTC Vive and Oculus,” the company said in a short statement. While you won’t be prompted to log into Steam, this means the game still uses Steam VR to run its VR mode, on both Oculus and HTC Vive. You can play without VR mode, too.
Tetris Effect has been available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR.
