As promised, Ninja Theory has shared the first gameplay for Hellblade.
Featured above, you can view the gameplay for the upcoming PC and Playstation 4 action game. Players will experience a story following the Celtic Warrior Senua, who is left traumatized following a Viking invasion. The game itself is centered on her trip into Hell, which is actually a trip into her own psychosis.
Ninja Theory contracted the help of Paul Fletcher, a Psychiatrist and Professor of Health Neuroscience from the University of Cambridge, alongside people who have actually experienced mental illness.
As for the funding of the new title, we now know it’s backed by Wellcome Trust, a charity that focuses on educating people regarding science and health. Trust’s Creative Partnerships Manager Iain Dodgeson talked up why they decided to fund the game, in an interview with IGN:
“Rather than being a didactic game teaching us about psychosis, Hellblade allows us to explore it through the creation of a compelling and complex character, and the world that she inhabits.”
A release date is still unconfirmed, but we’ll keep you guys posted.
