While No Man’s Sky has been winning the hearts of many with its completely mesmerizing visuals and completely insane scope of replayability, yet another indie team has set their sights on the untapped space sim sandbox genre.
Enter the survival centered space sandbox Empyrion from German-based indie studio Eleon Game Studios, which you can see a pretty thorough gameplay and features trailer for above. The game is powered with Unity 3D, and it enables players to live out the space-faring life of their choosing.
You can build the ultimate hideout on the perfect planet (all planets are procedurally generated by the way), or you can accumulate enough resources to build that interstellar battleship of your dreams, so that you can lay waste to entire planets. The most insane feature of Empyrion is the ability to build a ship completely out of blocks, only to have it come alive with the proper wiring/configuration.
The mind expands at the very thought of all the possibilities that lay in wait from a promising game like Empyrion, as the studio has simply put the various mechanisms in place for you to survive in space. You’ll have to properly sustain your astronaut (and others) with food, air supplies, and so on.
I’ve only touched upon the massive amount of information regarding Empyrion in its current state – you can read a lot more on their official website. Eleon Game Studios are going to launch Empyrion on Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight sometime this October, so we’ll keep you guys posted.
