Embrace the Fear of the Dark in Two Souls: The Path of the Shadows

Solid Snake, Raiden, Ryu Hayabusa, Gabe Logan, and Sam Fisher all have one things in common: stealth. They embrace the element of surprise, observing their targets, and decisively planing out a dangerous a scenario before executing them with extreme, brutal efficiency.

Their skills hark back to the days of feudal japan in the land of warriors, samurai, and ninja.  The original masters of stealth, they understood that truly rattle the heartiest of enemies, one must instill fear and the unknown. Embrace the shadows of the night, move like the wind, and eliminate your targets. This is the path of the shadows.

When a young girl is imprisoned, a mysterious, undead warrior will rise to free her. This is the world of Two Souls: The Path of Shadows from Spain-based Lince Works.

According to their Kickstarter Campaign page, the game harks back to the traditional samurai simulator such as Tenchu. This is not a hack-and-slash type title such as Afro Samurai or Ninja Gaiden. Think of it more akin to Metal Gear Solid. Direct confrontation is to be avoided at all costs.

Being seen will mean certain death. However, the advantages of being a neat-looking undead warrior are the manipulation of the shadows themselves. That’s right, you aren’t just hiding behind corners or perching on rooftops.

You can actually manipulate the light and the shadows to allow you to silently move between patrols. Even better, you can use those powers to “leap” between shadows. You are a supernatural undead warrior after all. The game is mixing classic game play styles with very modern approaches.

As for the music, it is being made by Two Feathers Studios, a Swedish-based dynamic duo between Elvira “Lynx” Björkman and Nicklas Hjertberg. In addition to the music, they are in charge of the sound design for the game as well. They have a talent of carefully crafting and designing music for a variety of projects.

A sample for that is featured from SoundCloud and it is truly mesmerizing. The same can be said of the game’s main theme, which is featured above. Check out the studio on their main website. Also, follow them on Facebook and Twitter for continuous updates.

The game is looking to Kickstarter for funding. It is slated for release on the PS4, Wii U, and Xbox One alongside PC, Mac, and Linux. They are a good ways to their target but still need help. There are dozens of tiers to fund, giving a wide option to backers. Check out the Kickstarter campaign page here. Follow Lince Works on Facebook and Twitter as well as YouTube and Tumblr. Stay shadowy my friends.
