Elon Musk’s run as both new owner of Twitter and its CEO is approaching its second month, only now he’s confirmed he will resign as CEO sooner rather than later.
After running a poll on his own account asking users if he should resign as CEO, 17.5 million votes later users made it clear: 57% said yes, he should resign while only 42.5% said he should remain CEO.
Immediately after launching the poll, Musk teased “As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it.”
When users guessed that he had his new CEO lined up already, he struck that down too making it clear there is no one lined up, yet.
“No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive. There is no successor,” Musk said.
Now, the sole owner of Twitter is saying he will resign as CEO – like he originally planned – once a replacement is found.
“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job!,” Musk said after the poll was concluded. “After that, I will just run the software & servers teams.”
The timeline of changes at Twitter has been so fast it can be hard to follow – right after inking the deal on his buyout Musk fired most of the top executives at the company, as well as its board of directors.
After a thorough evaluation of the company’s 7,000+ employees, Musk fired thousands of its global workforce – and then issued an ultimatum the remaining staff had to sign on to the company’s new focus.
Even more staff quit after refusing the ultimatum and despite mass claims from corporate outlets and pundits, the bird app has remained mostly fully functional since the mass layoffs.
