ASCII-style game Effulgence RPG reveals new trailer, playtest

Effulgence RPG

Indie developer Andrei Fomin has shared a new trailer for Effulgence RPG alongside confirming a playtest for the stylish yet retro party-based RPG.

A playtest for the ASCII-style party RPG is planned for sometime in the next two weeks, via Steam. A release date is set for October 23rd.

Here’s a rundown on the game, plus a new trailer:

Effulgence RPG is a party-based RPG where enemies are more than obstacles – they’re raw material. Break them down into particles and forge weapons and gear using a matter printer. The entire world is built from text symbols arranged in 3D space, creating a uniquely striking visual style.

Plot

It’s easy to transmit a video signal when you’re just the distance of a satellite away. If you go beyond the solar system, it may take hours to send a regular image to Earth.

But when the signal comes from a galaxy a million light-years away, only fragments of symbols make it to us. Sometimes, they can be decoded and assembled into an animation made from text characters.

This is the story of a strange world. It may no longer exist, as the signal has traveled for a million years. Or perhaps it not only exists, but is preparing an attack?

Game features:

  • The only way to gather crafting resources is by defeating creatures and breaking them down into individual particles.
  • Using these particles, you can print weapons, gear, and mechanisms on a special printer.
  • Dozens of locations to explore.
  • A wide variety of resources for creating items on the printer.
  • Over a hundred blueprints for items you can print.
  • Advanced character upgrade system.
