D3 Publisher and developer Sandlot have announced they’re making changes to Earth Defense Force 6 and its Epic Games launcher requirement for online play.
“The development team for Steam is reviewing and planning changes to the specification that requires sign in to Epic Games account, which has received the most feedback,” Sandlot said in a statement.
While the developer is planning “changes” to the Epic Games requirement, it remains unclear if this means they’ll remove the requirement altogether. The developer also said they can’t confirm how long it’ll take to make these changes.
Niche Gamer reached out to the team managing the western release directly for a comment to hopefully clarify the above but they couldn’t confirm further details – the hope is that we’ll learn more from D3 Publisher and/or Sandlot soon.
To recap, when the sixth entry in the shlocky alien shooty game launched, it didn’t list the Epic Games launcher as a requirement for online play. This prompted hundreds of negative reviews pointing this out, after which the game started listing the requirement, though roughly half its reviews are now negative.
Earth Defense Force 6 was just released on July 25th for Windows PC (via Steam), and both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
