Earthworm Jim Animated TV Series Announced; New Lead Cast, Not Involving Creator Doug TenNapel

Earthworm Jim TV Series

Interplay have announced a new Earthworm Jim animated TV series, releasing a new teaser trailer, though without involvement of Doug TenNapel.

The series seems to be a full-blown reboot with a new cast of lead characters, and without the involvement of original creator Doug TenNapel; who some had taken issue with his conservative and Christian beliefs. In case you missed it, you can find our 2017 interview with him here. TenNapel also successfully crowdfunded several Earthworm Jim comic books.

Rather than Peter Puppy and Princess What’s-Her-Name, it seems Jim’s friends in the new animated series will be other earthworms in Super Suits, and a giant bull-man. One piece of concept art shows multiple copies of arch-nemesis Psy-Crow.

Other details are scant at this time, but the new trailer states it’s for children and adults. The teaser-trailer interview with Jim also suggests he is lost in space, further hindered by Earth being the only planet in the galaxy with tasty dirt.

Even so, the surreal nature of the video game and original cartoon series can make it hard to take what Jim says in the interview trailer as gospel. He does say “ass,” suggesting a teenager age demographic at minimum.

You can find the new trailer on the official website, or via WorthPlayingVideos below.

We will keep you informed as we learn more. Earthworm Jim is currently in development for the Intellivision Amico.
