EA Removes Marco van Basten From FIFA 20 Over a Nazi Joke

EA Sports has removed legendary Dutch football player Marco van Basten from FIFA 20 over a Nazi-themed joke he made last week.

The former pro-football player made a joke, off camera, where he said “Sieg Heil” as a German football manager left an interview. Marco said that the comment was a joke, even though it was “stupid and inappropriate.”

Despite his apology and donation to the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Fox Sports has suspended him for a week, and EA has removed him from FIFA 20 until further notice.

Players in FIFA 20 won’t be able to add van Basten in the game’s Ultimate Team Mode, but you can still find in-game cards of him on the player auction house. This is mostly likely due to the fact that players may have auctioned his cards without knowing of his comment.

FIFA 20 is currently available for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch.
