A new report is making the rounds that Electronic Arts has canceled their Black Panther game alongside shutting down its studio, Cliffhanger Games.
The new report comes from a purported email from EA president Laura Miele which confirms the game’s cancelation alongside the layoffs. The aforementioned Black Panther game was announced back in 2023 and hasn’t gotten an update since.
“These decisions are hard,” Miele said in the email. “They affect people we’ve worked with, learned from, and shared real moments with. We’re doing everything we can to support them — including finding opportunities within EA, where we’ve had success helping people land in new roles.”
EA didn’t announce the number of layoffs in the email and Miele said the changes alongside other cancelations and layoffs are being done to “sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities.”
After the aforementioned layoffs and cancelations, EA will focus on “a small handful of franchises” going forward, including: Battlefield, The Sims, Skate, and Apex Legends. Miele did note they will continue investing in their Iron Man game being produced by EA Motive, as well as their third upcoming Star Wars: Jedi game.
