Sega Genesis Mini – E3 2019 Hands-on Preview

genesis 1

At this year’s E3 were able to get a hands-on preview and played some of the games on Sega’s upcoming Sega Genesis Mini Classic Console.

The Genesis Mini is about the same size as the NES and SNES Classics launched a few years back, and will come with a corded controller and HDMI hookups, allowing you play those 16-bit games the way they were always meant to be played- in glorious HD three feet from your TV.

Realistically though, the games on the console look and play almost flawlessly.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have too much time to sit down and play each and every one of the 42 games included on the system, so I sat down to play the game that originally drew me to the Genesis Mini: Mega Man: The Wily Wars.

It’s no secret that I’m a massive Mega Man fan, and having the chance to try out a game in the series I had never played before was a chance I couldn’t pass up.

The controller felt just like how I remember my old Genesis controllers feeling, with a nice tightness and pop to the buttons.

Mega Man moved, jumped, and attacked just as I expected him to, and I really didn’t notice any input lag at all.

The screen and graphics were bright and crisp, and much better than I remember them on the original version of the system.

Menus in-game are accessed by holding down the start button for 5 seconds.

From here, you can access several different options, including game select and save states.

In case you missed our original report of the system, you can find it here. You can see a full listing of the rest of the games here, here and here.

Slated for launch on September 19th, 2019 with a price point of $79.99, the Genesis Mini is looking to be an ideal pickup for collectors or old fans of the original Genesis system.
