E3 2022 is cancelled entirely

UPDATE: The ESA has issued an official statement, confirming E3 2022 is cancelled entirely like the original reports suggested.

“We will devote all our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer. Whether enjoyed from the show floor or your favorite devices, the 2023 showcase will bring the community, media, and industry back together in an all-new format and interactive experience. We look forward to presenting E3 to fans around the world live from Los Angeles in 2023.”

The ESA added that the cancellation was so they can “focus its resources” on the 2023 show.

ORIGINAL STORY: We’ve learned E3 2022 is cancelled entirely, news confirmed initially by industry folks via an email announcement.

While news that E3 2022 is cancelled entirely was posted by former reality TV star Will Powers, the email was later independently corroborated by IGN. This is still not officially confirmed, though, and as such is a rumor until the ESA confirms this with these people or the staff here at Niche Gamer.

IGN is noting “sources connected to the event” have said there’s discussions to hold some kind of digital version of the show like before, but there isn’t “strong momentum to drive them.” The ESA is reportedly looking to make a larger comeback both in person and digitally in 2023.

E3 2022 was previously planned to be a digital-only event, due to the now-forgotten COVID-19 omicron strain that had some still concerned over going outside, let alone to big in-person events.

In comparison, other big games industry events elsewhere in the world like Gamescom 2022 and Tokyo Game Show 2022 are planning full in-person attendance, and seemingly have no COVID-19 restrictions.

We’ll keep you guys posted.
