Dungeon Defenders II, which has been on Steam in Early Accesss since last year, pumped out a major update yesterday on the 28th. The new update adds new pet mechanics as well as a bunch of new features, and it may be one of the largest the game has seen to date.
The biggest part of the “Pets & Dragons” update is the addition of the pets, of course. Players can now find pet eggs during the game, hatch them, and then help their new friends grow for battle or even just for their collection. Over time, through interactions with players, the pets will get stronger – their stats will go up and their abilities will improve as well. For now, there are 3 distinct species of pet available and a total of 8 pets overall. They’ve also said already that more pets will be available in the future.
Of course, there’s new content as well. Three new maps were added, as well as a new boss named “Betsy” – the Dragon part of the Pets & Dragons update. A number of other features were added too – check them out below.
- Costumes! – Costumes have been added.
- Accessories – Right along with costumes are the new accessories. Accessories will allow you to customize costumes more to your personal style. Some of these will even evolve as you play while wearing them.
- Quests – A new quest system was added, allowing players to earn tokens by playing the new content that will unlock in-game items.
- Skill Spheres – These will allow you to make your Hero and Towers more dangerous as they level. ‘Uber Skill Spheres’, found in the quest items, can completely alter how an abilitiy or tower works altogether.
- Design – The tavern operating as the player’s base has been revamped.
And that’s not all. Right now, Dungeon Defenders II is on sale on Steam at a 33% discount. There’s yet to be an official release date yet, but the developers have confirmed it will be free to play on PC, Mac, Linux, and PS4.
