Dune Star Timothée Chalamet Was an Xbox YouTuber

We’ve learned Dune star Timothée Chalamet was an Xbox YouTuber that focused on custom Xbox paint jobs, many years ago before he ever started his acting career.

A YouTube channel by the name of “ModdedController360” was discovered by the folks at VICE looking to waste time on silly investigations, leading them to believe Dune star Timothée Chalamet was an Xbox YouTuber.

The initial report was finally confirmed by Chalamet himself in an interview with another YouTuber, Nate Hill, who talked up his role in the Dune reboot – and naturally his rumored past as an Xbox YouTuber.

Chalamet and his Dune co-star Zendaya were invited to talk with Hill on their Fortnite skins (yes, this is a thing), where they also said they play Fortnite occasionally.

Chalamet noted he got hooked on the original Luigi’s Mansion, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and later with shooters like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2. Eventually he confirmed the YouTube channel is indeed his old work.

“I had a YouTube channel people found,” Chalamet said. “It’s YouTube dot com back-slash ModdedController360. And I used to paint-mod controllers.”

“I did three and I spray painted them. I would open them up and paint them and charge people ten dollars. […] It took me like five hours, I remember the kids too. My parents were like ‘there’s spray paint all over the house, you can’t do this anymore’ (laughs).”

Chalamet’s old channel has roughly 28,000 subscribers with only three videos, each dedicated to one of the custom Xbox controller paint jobs he did. The first “Christmas-themed” controller has a red face and green backplate, the second is a mix of blue and silver, and the third has a red tiger print which the younger Chalamet describes as “nice” and “sexy.”

Before his reveal in the later interview, it wasn’t clear if it was actually Chalamet in the old videos – because he never showed his face. That’s quite the opposite of now, where you see his face practically everywhere in new film.

The Dune reboot is now playing in theaters worldwide, and streaming digitally via HBO Max.
