Dragonheart is getting a 4K remaster

Dragonheart

Shout Factory has announced they’re preparing a 4K blu-ray release for Dragonheart, Rob Cohen’s legenary fantasy epic from 1996.

While details on the 4K remaster are scant, a release is currently set for January 10th, and pre-orders are now live on Amazon and participating retailers.

The original blu-ray release for Dragonheart was one of Universal Pictures’ earlier releases on the standard, and was also released on HD-DVD (that was a thing) with the former reportedly looking worse than the latter. Hopefully the Shout Factory remaster comes looking much better, and with all the bonus content from its original HD release.

Here’s a brief blurb on Dragonheart:

Dragonheart (1996)

Disillusioned knight Bowen (Dennis Quaid) befriends Draco (Sean Connery), the last of the dragons, and the two begin scamming village folk as Bowen repeatedly “kills” Draco for money. Bowen soon learns that Draco is the same dragon who once saved his former student, now King Einon (David Thewlis), from death by giving him a piece of his heart. Einon is now a merciless tyrant, and Bowen is compelled to stop him — but the bond between king and dragon means if one dies, the other does as well.
