Dragon Quest XI Opening Movie, Gameplay Reveal, First Character Details

Square Enix has shared more info for Dragon Quest XI during their stage show at this year’s Jump Festa.

Alongside a couple of gameplay videos for the PS4 and 3DS version, they also revealed the opening trailer for the game, which you can view above.

The games starts when the Protagonist, a young man who lives in the village of Ishi, turns 16 year old. The village is described as being “filled with warm-hearted people.”

The first partner you’ll recruit was also revealed – the blue-haired thief named Camus. He’s a bit rough as he talks, he is idealistic and has a warm heart to boot. He’s familiar with the world, and acts as a guide for the protagonist.

Here’s some gameplay of both versions:

Dragon Quest XI is expected to be released in Japan in 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS. No announcement was made for the Nintendo Switch version, which Square Enix previously confirmed.

    It looks so pretty!
And what they did for the 3DS version with the bottom screen is pretty damn clever!

Wait until a west release date is announced. But I would suggest any version but the 3ds one.

I’m just curious. If this game gets localized, will they end up calling it Dragon Quest X? I ask because it’s safe to assume the actual Dragon Quest X is never getting released here.

    Knowing Square-Enix, I wouldn’t be surprised.;)

I thought DQX was supposed to actually get localized. Or an I thinking of a port?

Dang was hoping for custom character and displayable armor sets. Oh well, definitely minor gripes considering how awesome it’s looking so far.

They said if fan demand was high enough which is a bullshit question with how much everyone has been wanting it barring the anti-MMO coalition.

Wait until you see who’s on the localization before ruling out the 3DS unless the PS4 or Switch are busted open by the time it comes over.

PS4(/Switch/PC) having generic realtime gameplay confirms it’s the inferior version.

Will get the 3DS(/Mobile) one once it hits Western app stores.

The opening cinematic is really pretty. I really like the idea of the two different versions of the game telling the same story.

Goddamn its about fucking time. Now we wait another 3 years before they announce english version, then 3 more years for the release.

But hey at least there’s an inferior-looking 3DS gimmick version.

    Wait a second
You mean to tell me, this is a single player JRPG?
You mean it’s not some MMO shit?
Is it like, some epic quest to save the world from ancient evil?
With knights, rouges, monks, archers, priests and wizards?
I’m gonna cry! I’m gonna fucking cry!
I waited the entire seventh console generation for something like this

    Yeah, I remember that.

I don’t buy it either, mainly because fans have been “showing demand” for every game in the series.

Though honestly, I’d rather have DQM. Its the only 3DS game we haven’t gotten yet.

I do too, but then I though that was a given.

They kinda did go Final Fantasy with the Z-powers and stuff, not really a bad thing though imo.

But yeah, same here for Digimon. On the bright side (sorta) those games don’t use the Pro, so you wouldn’t lose much getting a base model on the cheap.

I can’t really see many Japanese devs using it, besides maybe SE.

I agree but I get the feeling they are going with the “Link” type of main character. (a walking piece of cardboard without personality) and when they go with those, it’s much better to have a custom one.

    Nope
Chrono and the Hero from DQVIII were basically that and i love them just the way they are
Custom characters in something lazy devs do when they do not want to design a character
it’s a feature mostly used on Western RPGs wannabes like Skyrim or other Bethesda shit

I remeber DQVIII was hyped because the game came with a playable demo of FFXII
I have sooooo much to thank to that game, Not only was one of, if not, the best JRPG of the 6th gen but it also warned me about how shit FFXII was gonna be

I did, on a DS emulator, on a shitty PCm the fcking game lagged all the way to the end
When i started to get the latest equpment wich was very detailed in it’s design the game crashed every now and then so i never finished it, nor felt any desire to do so, the fact that that all characters where nameless faceless protagonist killed my interest

nah. I don’t like when a supposed character is a blank slate. my philosophy is: if you’re gonna make me stare at a character’s ass for hours on end, at least give an interesting one to stare at. if not an interesting character, let me have a cute Ganguro character I can draw art of (that’s why I like how Saints Row, Freedom Wars, and Dragon’s Dogma, among others, have their character creation).
