We’ve learned the game is not just a straight up-port, it actually comes with some new features.

First up, there’s the expected StreetPass functionality, as well as a brand new scenario, and playable character. The events in-game will now be fully-voiced, and the game itself will featured an orchestral soundtrack performed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.

There are also multiple different retailer-specific pre-order bonuses to consider:

  • Square Enix e-Store – Candy Cane (Yangus specific)
  • Amazon Japan – Healie T-Shirt (everyone)
  • Aeon – Healie Cap, helmet (everyone)
  • Game Tsutaya – Gold Bamboo Spear (protagonist specific)
  • 7-Eleven – Lucky Pendant (everyone)
  • Yodobashi Camera – Metal Slime Tray (everyone)

Square Enix has confirmed they’re porting Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King to the Nintendo 3DS.

The game was originally launched on the Playstation 2 back in 2004, followed by a smartphone release in Japan this past December.

Dragon Quest VIII on the 3DS will cost 5,980 yen, although for now we know it’s only confirmed for Japan. You can find the game’s newly opened website here.

Finally, the new version is set to arrive in Japan on August 27th.
