Dragon Quest series producer Ryota Aomi has resigned from Square Enix, the developer announced tonight.

“I am announcing my personal note to you all,” Aomi said. “I, Aomi, have resigned from Square Enix. I apologize for this sudden notice to our users.”

Before he came to Square Enix, Ryota worked for Genius Sonority, where he was a game designer on several Pokemon games like Pokemon Colosseum, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, and Pokemon Trozei.

Aomi began working on his first Square Enix game with Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors, which he was a planner on its development.

He added, “13 years at Square Enix, Dragon Quest for about 16 years, including from my previous development period. Dragon Quest has been a dream of mine since I was in elementary school. Every day was like a story.”

The producer naturally thanked all the users, fans, and everyone involved – including everyone at Square Enix, for their support. “From now on, as a Square Enix fan and a Dragon Quest fan, I will support you all a lot!,” he said.

“Now, ‘new adventure’ has started at the next company,” Aomi said. “I will keep you updated on my recent and future activities. Please wait a little longer.”

Lastly, Aomi expressed his “sincere appreciation to Yuji Horii, Akira Toriyama, and Koichi Sugiyama.”
