Fans of the Omega Force-developed Dragon Quest Heroes spinoff games have been waiting years for a third game, but a recent interview confirms Dragon Quest Heroes III could happen, but it needs to really impress fans.
“Obviously this is a Square Enix property so we can’t really say anything, but I have kind of mentioned to them before, ‘Shouldn’t we consider a third entry?’,” Koei Tecmo director Tomohiko Sho said in an interview with NintendoEverything.
Sho then talked up how internally they’ve been discussing how Dragon Quest Heroes III could happen, but have concerns over how to improve the formula.
“So we’ve been talking a little about maybe putting out a third entry, but really the big thing is between I and II there were so many improvements made.” Sho said.
He added, ” If we were going to go from II to III, what else can we put in to really impress the players who played both games that will get them really excited and really emotionally moved by it? So there are a lot of hurdles. What would it be that we can put into the game? That’s still something we’re not sure how to do yet.”
The original Dragon Quest Heroes has been available for Windows PC (via Steam) and PlayStation 4, with a Nintendo Switch that came later but hasn’t been released outside of Japan.
Dragon Quest Heroes II has been available for Windows PC (via Steam) and PlayStation 4 since 2017. It was later ported to Nintendo Switch in Japan alongside the first game, but never saw an overseas release on Switch.
