Nippon Television announced a new TV drama based on Dragon Quest composer Koichi Sugiyama, and how he composed the series’ legendary main overture theme.
The new drama film (via Comic Natalie) stars Ken Yasuda (安田顕) as the legendary composer Koichi Sugiyama, who sadly passed away last year.
Titled “The Story of Koichi Sugiyama: The Untold Story of Dragon Quest Overture”, a premiere is set for August 27th through the 28th on Nippon Television
“When I heard about this project, the magnificent music of the Dragon Quest ‘Overture’ spread in my mind,” Yasuda said in a statement.
He added, “I am very honored to play the role of the great Mr. Sugiyama, who created music that is loved by all generations. I hope that you will be able to get a glimpse of the kind of person Sugiyama-sensei was. Please watch the film.”
Alongside the premiere of the new drama film is a live performance by the Ishigaki Daini Junior High School in Tokyo marching band (which Sugiyama donated many music instruments before his death).
The live performance will feature a medley of Dragon Quest songs at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo and will be broadcasted on August 28th around 9:50 AM Japan time.
