Dragon Quest Builders Series Director Kazuya Niinou Resigns

Dragon Quest Builders series director Kazuya Niinou has announced he’s resigned from Square Enix.

“With the development on Builders 2 now completed, I have left Square Enix,” Niinou said. “To Naoki Yoshida, Noriyoshi Fujimoto, Takuma Shiraishi, all of my colleagues, and everyone that enjoyed the games I made, thank you so much! I greatly appreciate your support.”

Niinou added, “I have been at Square Enix for roughly seven years now (the longest yet!). I felt a bit burned out with Builders 2 and wanted to try a different development cycle from Square Enix, so I opted for a new development method.”

While he didn’t specify where, Niinou confirmed his future plans are already set, and he will share more details next week. He also confirmed he’ll watch over post-launch development for Dragon Quest Builders 2.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is now available for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. In case you missed it, you can find our thorough review for the game here (we absolutely love the game!).
