Dragon Fin Soup Revealed

I’ve always been a sucker for Roguelikes; a genre that almost eclipses my love of JRPGs. Imagine then how a game that combined the two styles would enthrall me. That’s what’s happening right now with Grimm Brother’s new game Dragon Fin Soup, which bears all the hallmarks of a roguelike while retaining a simply gorgeous JRPG aesthetic that sets it apart from its genre’s competition.

Made by an indie team of five veteran game developers, Dragon Fin Soup has made it onto Steam’s Greenlight page and is sticking out like a lump of gold among the dross that usually populates the service.

According to the developer, Dragon Fin Soup is an attempt to appeal to both the hardcore and the casual crowd, and the way they intend to do this is by speeding up combat and improving the user interface to accommodate those unfamiliar with the genre. A simple glance at the video will prove that to be true, since the interface is extremely slick and seems to borrow its look from Torchlight more than anything else.

The game is currently in its Alpha phase, so a release may still be a way off. Though if the currently non-working beta signup link on their webpage is any indication, players may get a chance to test its waters very soon.
