Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butouden, a 2D Fighter, is Revealed for 3DS

The latest issue of V-Jump (via Anime News Network) has revealed a brand new, 2D fighting game set in the Dragon Ball Z: Butouden series is coming to the Nintendo 3DS.

Dragon Ball Z Extreme Butouden 02-17-15-1

Dubbed simply Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butouden, the game will feature over a hundred combatants in both one-on-one and team matches. The game is set for a release in Japan sometime this summer.

In the game, players can unleash “Ultimate Arts” finishers, and the levels in the game feature varying layouts and themes. With the “Z Assist” technique, you can call upon Bulma and Chichi (among other support characters) to come in and fight for you. Bulma, for example, can make use of her inventions from Capsule, while ChiChi can shame her enemies into submission by filling the screen with her screaming text balloon.

The Dragon Ball Z: Butouden franchise debuted on the Super Famicom system back in 1993 with Dragon Ball Z: Super Butouden. The last game in the series, Dragon Ball Kai: Ultimate Butouden, launched on the Nintendo DS back in 2011.
