Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Introduces Goku Black In New Gameplay Trailer

Bandai Namco uploaded a new trailer onto YouTube, showing off Goku’s new look in Xenoverse 2 as Goku Black in a new gameplay trailer.

The trailer is just about a solid minute of gameplay from Xenoverse 2 showing Goku Black beating Vegeta to a pulp. According to the video’s description, a pre-order will net you Goku Black as playable on Day 1.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is set for an October 25th release in North America on PS4 and Xbox One, with Europe getting the game a few days later on October 28th – with a PC release too. Japan gets the game even later on November 2nd.

I just want to say that SS4 was better than Tumblr Saiyan.

Weird, I think of Slurpees when I see god form hair.

I’m against preorder bonuses like this, that cut away characters, but I don’t really care about Super, so I’m OK.

This so much! SS4 at least had originality going for it, being the mixture between super saiyen and the great ape form. God form just looks so bland and boring.

Also, if this one doesn’t have transformations, i’m not interested.

The previous game had transformations and so does this one. In fact they added the giant Namek transformation. I found it quite useful in the currently ongoing beta.

The thing I liked most about SS4 besides making the ape form relevant again is that it was so contrived it felt like they were breaking something by doing it, like the transformation was some sort of hack that the universe never intended.

It’s not pre-order only anymore. I think that was announced a little while ago. You just get him free when you pre-order, or can just buy him separately if you want to wait.

It’s still cut content from the game, which is not ideal.

Black was likely made post development, but before the game went Gold. Not quite the same as “cut content”, as Black would not be cut from the game at all. I don’t mind either way, so long as it’s not a SFxT type deal with DLC(where it’s all done, but locked away). Ideally, all DLC would be free, though. But we do not live in such a perfect world…

“Black was likely made post development, but before the game went Gold.” – we have no way of knowing that. New characters shouldn’t be available on launch day unless they are free.

It’s generally a safe assumption due to how development works, which is why I said “likely”. It’s obviously possible that they did cut him out, but given that Black is a very recent character, I’d wager that’s it was a post development addition. And I don’t have the issue with day one DLC others do, unless said DLC is integral to the story/game. Of course, whether the DLC is “bad” or not is up to the consumer.

“It’s obviously possible that they did cut him out” – that’s the problem. We have know idea.

“but given that Black is a very recent character, I’d wager that’s it was a post development addition.” – not really an argument, since he’s existed since the 12th of June and given that the game has not gone gold yet and the beta is currently
ongoing I’d say that it’s “likely” that his inclusion as DLC is a
business decision rather than a development one. In the previous game SS4 Vegeta was the preorder bonus and he has existed for ages.

For fighting games placing characters behind a paywall is like removing certain pieces from the chessboard. Judging by the beta Black may be playing a part in the story.

I don’t think Black will have a part in the story, based on what I saw. Seems it’s another take on XV1’s story. But I could be wrong, and I’d like to be, since Black is a fun character. And you’re right about the business decision bit because all DLC boils down to that, really. As for how important Black is: He’s seemingly very similar to Goku, so I can’t imagine him having a large impact in a cast of 50-ish characters. At least, so long as he is a clone character.

I just played the beta, which contained part of the story and it looks like he is in there. I don’t really care since I dropped Super a while ago and pretend that it doesn’t exist, but this is a matter of principle.

It doesn’t matter how large his impact is. The point is that cutting him out is wrong.

Well, we can’t be sure if he was actually cut out. And Super got good in the Future Trunks arc(at least as good as the average DBZ arc). BoG and RoF arcs were not needed, and were a waste of time.

Goku Black is probably the best thing to come out of Super so far, tbh, so I’m happy that he made it in. Sucks that he’s a pre-order bonus / DLC character, though.

“Well, we can’t be sure if he was actually cut out.” – and we can’t be sure that it wasn’t. This is why characters shouldn’t be day 1 DLC.

I can’t bring myself to watch it again. Super has been pure cringe. I’d much prefer to pretend GT is canon and be done with it.

Nothing in GT comes close to the Bingo dance and that twat Beerus, who destroys planets because he doesn’t like the food in them.

Plus GT didn’t mess with Z’s canon, unlike Super.

Pon Para dance was so bad, I cringed out of existence. Pan was bad, Trunks was annoying, Goku wasn’t fun, and the villains were all nothing. That’s my opinion on GT, and why I think it’s worse. It tried to ape original DB, and failed. Super at least had some success in doing so. That’s how I feel, and this current arc is better than anything GT produced.

At least they didn’t do the dance on their own will unlike Vegeta who was acting like a coward.

The villains in GT were the best part about it. A Tuffle, an android and the Shadow Dragons – all pretty creative and fitting well in the universe. At least they had their motivations unlike Beerus, who we don’t have to consider a villain even with a kill count of billions for the stupidest reason ever.

What did Super do to emulate the original Dragonball?

“That’s how I feel, and this current arc is better than anything GT produced.” – I don’t really trust you on that, so I won’t be watching it.

Super brought more focus to comedy, as well as the slice of life bits that DB had. Heck, the Mafuba has been directly referenced as a potential solution to the current arc, and that’s neat. As well as more focus on choreography, though not much, when compared to even DBZ.

Beerus is, weirdly enough, one of the things even the haters like about Super. So have fun with that thought. He’s a neutral character who just does his job and happens to enjoy it. He’s not too interesting to me, but he does occasionally bring up some good points in the current arc.

None of those villains mattered to me. Either they had little in the way of looks, personality or creativity. But YMMV on that. I thought Super 17 looked like a dork, for example, and that Omega Shenron felt lame. Just didn’t like it. Same with SSJ4, which looked tacky at best.

The series always had comedy in them and nothing from what I’ve watched in Super made me laugh.

“Beerus is, weirdly enough, one of the things even the haters like about Super.” – citation needed. Plus I personally hate him and that’s what matters to me.

I mean, don’t get me wrong. Super isn’t on DB’s level. Nothing in the series tops the original journey, though DB started out really weird. For context, this is my opinion on the series: Dragon Ball > DBZ Kai > DBZ > DB Super > GT > Non-Canon Movies > Xenoverse. Not counting the other games I played, as those are straight retellings.

For me it goes DB>DBZ & Canon Movies (minus the two recent ones with Beerus) > Non-canon movies>DB GT > Xenoverse > Super and it’s whole universe.

Super can’t be worse than Xenoverse. I have a hard time comprehending that. Trunks is a total nerd in that game, and there’s even a “this character is a terrible cook” joke at the end. How did that not kill you?

  27. Mr0303
    Mr0303
    October 14, 2016 at 8:14 pm

For me it is. At least Xenoverse had an interesting idea and rethreaded the story of Z. Unfortunately it went into Super and Beerus was represented as a Mary Sue, which he kind of is in Super as well. I’m not saying it’s good, just that I was able to stand it more than Super.

How is the terrible cook joke worse than the pudding shit the constantly reference in Super?

The pudding joke, if you mean Beerus’ anger over losing out on pudding, at least has the contrast of a godly being throwing a temper tantrum over something petty. It’s not great, but it has a foundation greater than “Hahaha, she can’t cook”. That’s how I see it. I also did not like Trunks, as he came off as too generic in Xenoverse. Future Trunks kept his characterization in Super, at the very least.

“godly being throwing a temper tantrum over something petty” – where is the contrast in there? That’s been his entire character since his introduction – destroying planets over food? Ordering Frieza (for some reason) to destroy planet Vegeta, because he didn’t get a pillow?

The “can’t cook” joke isn’t much different in tone. A godly being who lived millions of years, but didn’t learn to cook. Both are bad, but at least the Xenoverse one was used only twice.

“Future Trunks kept his characterization in Super, at the very least.” – unlike Vegeta and his Bingo dancing and unlike Gohan, who was supposed to be one of the strongest beings on Earth, but yet was was easily defeated by Frieza’s first form and struggled with his henchmen. Also they made the same canon mistake that GT made by making him go Super Saiyan. Also that green tracksuit.
