Dragon Ball Daima trailer reveals chibi Goku still goes Super Saiyan

Dragon Ball Daima

A new trailer for Dragon Ball Daima has shared a more in-depth look at the long-awaited follow up to the series, revealing its cast still retains powers from previous sagas.

Since its reveal last fall, Dragon Ball Daima implied the chibi-fied cast lost most of their powers from previous story arcs. The new trailer for the fifth series in Akira Toriyama’s beloved franchise has confirmed despite being small, Goku can still go Super Saiyan.

The new trailer for Dragon Ball Daima shows off Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and numerous other main characters all de-aged and chibi-fied, meeting new beings in the Demon Realm. Battles ensue and while the usual energy blasts and melee combat is shown, Goku powers up and goes full Super Saiyan.

Previous teaser videos and promotional art for the new series implied the new chibi forms of Goku and others restricted their powers, as combat seemed very grounded and focused on hand-to-hand fighting. Goku was even shown using his Power Pole again, implying his limited powers.

The new trailer confirms at least Goku will be able to go Super Saiyan again so there will likely be some intense battles with new and demonic foes, at least for the most famous Super Saiyan. At this point it remains unclear why everyone is chibi, and how much of their strength is limited in Dragon Ball Daima.

Here’s the new trailer:

Dragon Ball Daima is directed by Yoshitaka Yashima with series director Aya Komaki from Toei Animation. Yuko Kakihara handled series and scenario composition and Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru handled animation character designs.

It’s worth noting this is the final Dragon Ball project that the late Akira Toriyama worked on prior to his tragic death, as he provided an original story and character designs.

Dragon Ball Daima will have its world premiere at Tokyo Big Sight on October 6th during the Dragon Ball Daimatsuri event, which celebrates the 40th anniversary of the original manga. The first episode will be screened three times throughout the day with cast members attending the first two showings.

Dragon Ball Daima is set to premiere on television later on October 11th in Japan via Fuji TV, and sometime in October for the west.
