Double Fine: Psychonauts 2 Won’t Be Released Until at Least 2019

Double Fine Productions has posted a new development update for Psychonauts 2.

The update confirmed the game won’t make its planned release for next year. Project lead Zac McClendon confirmed the game “is not going to be done in 2018,” like the team “originally estimated when we published the Fig campaign two years ago.”

Their update further elaborated the status of the game:

“Now we are in full swing, we know a lot more about the size and scope of the game we are going to make, how long it will take us to make it, and the amount of time we need to make it be great. From those projections we know that Psychonauts 2 will not be shipping in 2018, like we originally estimated when we published the Fig campaign two years ago,” the update said.

Double Fine also noted that the team is “very close” to starting production on the first tier of backer rewards, and information for when those goodies are shipping out will be announced in the new year. They also noted that the game is in full development, with “five full level teams” working on real and mental game worlds.

Psychonauts 2 will launch across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
