DOOM Gets Bloodier In Video For New Version of Brutal Mod

Although it’s rather polarizing due to the new FPS conventions it adds to what many consider an already perfect game, the Brutal DOOM mod is one of the most popular modifications available for iD’s classic shooter. Speaking as someone who loves it myself (And regularly plays it to relieve stress), I find it impossible to go back to the vanilla version of the game. Adding severe gore, new weapons, fatality moves, dismemberment, iron sights, Duke Nukem-esque taunts, AI controlled marine partners and other such ludicrous modern features, Brutal DOOM has gained a lot of attention since its initial release in 2012.

Today, a trailer for the new version of the popular mod has surfaced, complete with all the gibs and rocket blasts you’d expect.

This new update adds ragdoll physics to the game, as well as more sticky gore dripping from the ceilings and walls, guaranteeing you’ll never again be caught saying “I like DOOM, but it’s not bloody enough”. Plus, the idea of ripping a zombie’s spine out and then using his head as a weapon against other zombies is the kind of thing I logically always wanted to do, but couldn’t. Kudos to the mod community that made that happen.

Sergeant Mark has stated that the mod will suffer no more delays and that you will be dual-wielding assault rifles no later than this June 5th.

Glad we will always have doom and it´s awesome comunnity still making mods like this one, even in 2015 it puts to shame nearly all of modern FPS

Personally, I prefer mods that are more balanced. And I don’t think anything can replace the original Doom. I’ve played lots of mods, and most of them really feel like their own thing, rather than a Doom replacement.

But hey, activity in the Doom community is always a good thing.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by “balanced?” Brutal Doom makes the game much harder than it was in vanilla.

The game is still very “Doom” at its core, at least that’s how I feel when I play it… the only demonizing contemporary FPS stuff is the reloading and the iron sights on the assault rifle. Personally I don’t think reloading is inherently a bad thing, I think of it as “temporarily running out of ammo” which just serves to make the game harder — vanilla Doom is pretty easy even on U-V. It gives you another thing to think about when you’re just shooting demons. Iron sights has a pretty bad rap after Call of Duty, but the effect is pretty negligible on the actual game in Brutal Doom. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t make the shotgun any more accurate, not too sure about the assault rifle though. Those are the only two weapons that use it. Honestly I was okay with having an accurate weapon to use other than the chaingun (which is just terrible, imo) and the single barrel shotgun. The thing I am actually the most worried about in this update is dual wielding assault rifles and plasma rifles, that seems like it might make the game a bit easier. I suppose it would be fine with specific WADS/level packs though.

Moving on from Brutal Doom, I’m curious as to whether or not Sgt_Mark_IV will look into GTAV modding.
