Doom Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Bethesda Softworks and developer id Software are celebrating the original Doom‘s 25th anniversary.

It’s been 25 years since December 10th, 1993, the day when the original Doom launched. The developer marked the occasion with a special trailer and the launch of the “Slayers Club”.

On the official website, Bethesda seems to be welcoming fans new and old with “The year of Doom”.

“Over the next year we’re celebrating 25 years of ripping and tearing. Twenty-five years of mods, gibs, guns, and the most passionate, unwavering, and ardent fanbase this side of Phobos. Whether you cut your teeth in 1993 or if DOOM (2016) was your first trip to Hell, we’re asking all DOOM Slayers past, present, and future to unite in celebrating one of entertainment’s most iconic franchises.”

Along with walllpapers and merchandise for everyone, the new “Slayers Club” will offer a Zombie Doomslayer outfit for Doom Eternal when it launches. You can find an image of it below.

The website implies this may not be the only bonus for signing up. “Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks around how to participate in the Year of DOOM, including information on exclusive content, rewards, events, contests, and much more.”

In earlier news, John Romero has created a new megawad for the original Doom.

The original Doom is available on PC (MS DOS, Windows), as well as 3DO, Acorn Archimedes, Atari Jaguar, Game Boy Advance, iPhone, PC-9801, PlayStation, PlayStation 3, Sega Genesis with 32X, SNES, Sega Saturn, Xbox, and Xbox 360. Not including unofficial mods.

Doom Eternal is coming to Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One. A release date has not yet been confirmed. In case you missed it, you can see the game’s debut here and everyone’s reaction to it here.
