If you’ve always dreamed of playing as a bear, and Bear Simulator doesn’t cut it for you, then you might want to consider a new RPG that recently popped up on Steam Greenlight called Witanlore: Dreamtime.

Created by veteran Elder Scrolls modders, Witanlore casts you in the role of a young ursine brave who embarks on a journey to meet his patron deity. Naturally, things don’t go quite as planned and the player finds themselves caught up in a war they had no intention of meddling in.

Witanlore: Dreamtime promises to employ a choice & consequence system combined with fully voiced (and non-linear, apparently) dialog trees, as well as unique loot in each of the game’s handcrafted dungeons – something that the developer hopes will combat player fatigue concerning so-called pointless side grottoes.

The character’s ursine race also uses totemic magic, giving them a ritualistic faith that bears (no pun intended) a lot of resemblance to Native American tribes of the past. Their magic is based around “totem animals” that act as the player’s spirit guide throughout the game and charge up as the game progresses.

Powered by Unreal Engine 4, Witanlore looks to have all the necessary components to make it a stand-out RPG, provided it can live up to its own design document. Those curious about it can visit the developer’s website for further updates and community interaction.
