No, it’s not an April Fool’s joke (Though you wouldn’t be faulted for thinking so, depending on your time zone), but Larian’s successful enhanced edition retooling of Divinity: Original Sin now has a new view for players to conduct their adventuring in: a somewhat farcical VR Mode.
Meant more as a skewering of the recent rush by developers to make every game VR compatible, Larian Studios has hidden a set of goggles within the game world that allows players to experience virtual reality through the eyes of their characters. Instructions on where to find this new and technologically out-of-place item can be found on their latest Kickstarter update:
- Now, we cordially invite you to JOIN US in testing out our first attempt at VR gaming.
- Who? PC players of Divinity: Original Sin- Enhanced Edition
- What? Larian’s first in-game VR mode. You do NOT need a VR headset to try it.
- Where? In your own living room/ dungeon/ Void
- When? Right now!
- How?
- Fire up Steam or GOG and download the most recent update for Divinity: Original Sin- Enhanced Edition.
- Start a new game. (The new mode won’t work in older saved games.)
- Conduct a little treasure hunt around the starting area of the game (VR-goggle engineering imps are known to hide loot along walls and behind crates) and you’ll find a very special bag with everything you need to try the new mode.
If you’re still unable to find ZixZax’s special goggles, an image revealing their exact location can be found here.
There’s also news concerning Larian’s Pax East appearance, where they will be showing off the combat system for Divinity: Original Sin 2. They encourage fans to drop by booth #10224 and try both the combat and the new VR mode out, as well as enter into drawings for a PS4 signed by the development team.
