In a shocking reveal by the Escapist, Disney has actually officially abandoned the Star Wars 1313 property, and as such they have let the mark for the property go just before the New Year. This news comes after the very unfortunate news of LucasArts’ closure and Disney’s total acquisition of Lucasfilm and all of its properties.
The mark was abandoned because: “no Statement of Use or Extension Request timely filed after Notice of Allowance was issued.” Despite the fact that this trademark has been abandoned, this does not rule out the possibility that the assets, storyline, and so on from 1313 could be used in another game, or (very possible) that the game has been simply rebranded to give it a fresh start under the new Disney helm.
It could also be possible that Disney simply didn’t like the concept of a gritty, darker Star Wars game set in the seedy underbelly of Coruscant, or possibly that one of the most villainous bounty hunters, Boba Fett, was rumored to be the game’s protagonist. I dunno about you, but for me the very concept of Star Wars 1313 sounded awesome and fresh – and I’m a lifelong Star Wars fan.
