Nippon Ichi Software has announced an HD remake for Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.

The new remake is in celebration of the game’s 15th anniversary. Development platforms weren’t announced, however a release window is set for sometime this summer.

If all it does is use the HD sprites from newer Disgaeas, I won’t be buying it no matter how much I love the series. They need to bring something new to the table, such as at least updating the mechanics so it’s not just the same game all over again.

That sounds more like a remaster or an update rather than a remake.

There’s no way it won’t be on Switch after Disgaea 5’s sales.

Can I at least get XP for things other than kills so I’m not constantly having to stop to grind my healer?

For whatever reason, I just never bothered to play any of the games in the series. Maybe it’s time to do so…

DS actually has a port of Disgaea Afternoon of Darkness on it with some extra features as well; “Disgaea DS.” Aside from the poorer sound quality, it’s actually my favorite version of the game to play. The touch screen is great for the battle system.

This is a fantastic place to start even if you play one of the older releases/ports. If you enjoy a zany cast and want a Strategy RPG shenanigans with less of the limits and permadeath of Fire Emblem (I like FE being FE, but find Disgaea to be a great other niche).

Disgaea is pretty much endless if you want it to be, not just in numbers or stages but potential strategies.

That’s fine, they got every breaker before this one anyway, PC and Nintendo didn’t get any though. Be cool if they did, it would also help the game’s sales. SD Gundam G Generation Genesis being a Switch exclusive hopefully will help this though.

Some people thought this would come to Vita. Gematsu users are delusional.

“HD” can mean a lot of things. If it’s just disgaea 5 graphics, I’ll pass.

If it’s guilty gear xrd graphics…….

yeah, very much what Kitsune said. We just got hit with the superior pc release too; there’s going to have to be something crazy to warrant a new release.

I do doubt the Vita couldnt handle Disgaea 5 and from what I recall this quite costed in terms of sales for Nippon Ichi Software.

Since 2 you have been able to gain experience by healing and other abilities, so I say probably yes.

All we have are Vitas here.

Master Etna told us, “Dead weight deserves a Dead console.”

Poor Vita. We share our suffering together, dood.

They’d be better off porting the other games to Steam like 3 and 4.
