Disco Elysium: The Final Cut Suffers Bugs on PlayStation 4 and 5; Progress Blocking, Save File Corruption, and More

Disco Elysium The Final Cut

Za/um have been fixing bugs in Disco Elysium: The Final Cut on PlayStation 4 and 5; including those blocking progress and corrupting save files.

As stated in our prior coverage of the original game, you play as a detective in the mysterious and corrupt town of Revachol. Disco Elysium promises an immense amount of freedom in how you approach the game, with 24 different skills to mix and match, tools, and other forms of character progression.

Solve cases through negotiation, interrogation, or violence as you try to crack a grisly murder investigation, or take on a variety of side quests for the game’s cast of quirky characters.

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut features new political vision quests, a new area, new characters, full voice acting for all characters and lines, and full controller support. Those on PlayStation 5 will also have the game running at 4K, 60fps, and optimized surround sound. Finally, those who own the original game will be upgraded to The Final Cut for free.

On the game’s launch however, PlayStation 4 and 5 players have run into numerous issues. Across Twitter and from our very own Fingal Belmont who is currently reviewing the game [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8] these issues included lagging, hangs, crashes, voice clips not playing and other issues, critical objects not loading into the world (in some cases soft-locking progress), interaction inputs not registering or stopping mid-animation, and save file corruption.

Za/um have been releasing numerous patches to address the issues [1, 2, 3], however many still persist. Speaking on April 9th (prior to the launch of patches 1.3 and 1.4) Za/um stated they were taking full responsibility for the issues, and were working on patches to resolve the problems.

“Maybe blame it on the Doomed Commercial Area, birthplace of doomed dreams, resting place for every venture. Blame it on an incursion of the apocalypse in a localized space, or whatever Tequila Sunset hits you with. Blame it on a call to Abigail.

Or just blame it on us. Because it is our fault, that’s true. We’re all just human beings dreaming big, and not always making those dreams come true like we hope. But we’re going to try anyway, and try again, until we get it right. And we will.”

[…] “Patch 1.5 is being worked on right now. We don’t have a launch date, but we wanted to tell you it’s coming, and tell you what y’all could expect.

And that’s all we can say for now. We know it’s rough, we know it’s our fault, and we’re here to tell you it’s getting fixed.

Thanks for your patience. Keep the days happy.”

This is not the only bad news the game has had. The Final Cut was refused classification in Australia in March due to its depictions of “sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena.”

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut is available on Windows PC, Mac (via the Epic Games Store, GOG, Steam, and the App Store only on Mac), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Google Stadia. You can expect our review soon.
