We’ve learned of a completely new Digimon game is in the works.

The latest V Jump magazine (via ShonenGameZ) has revealed Digimon World: Next Order, for the Playstation Vita. The game is currently in development, and set for a release some time next year.

Players will be able to battle and digivolve their Digimon, while adventuring and traveling together. The protagonist is named Takuto (Editor’s note, you can choose your own name), who is a senior at high school. He’s been a big fan of Digimon since an early age, and despite being near the end of his school activities, managed to get second place in a Japanese Digimon game competition.

Character designs are being handled by Taiki, who is known for designing many of the characters in Lord of Vermillion III. (you can view his work here). “When I was in elementary school, I bought my first Digimon handheld and it was the first time I fell in love with Digimon,” said Taiji-san. “As I was with my very own Digimon, I felt half of the pressure of my very own life.”

Gabumon and Agumon are featured in the magazine. While Gabumon is a shy, fledgling Digimon that later becomes the ferocious Garurumon, Agumon is simply a low-powered Digimon, with a flame attack.

The game’s official teaser website is set to open on July 21st, while an official Twitter account, @Digimon_Game, is going to open some time soon.
