Diablo meets Stardew Valley game Kingsgrave launches in April

Kingsgrave

Publisher Alawar and developer Egg or Chicken Games have announced a release date for Kingsgrave, their gloomy 2D RPG inspired by Diablo and Stardew Valley.

The new trailer for Kingsgrave definitely channels those Diablo vibes from the get-go, with its dark and gloomy world and haunting soundtrack. However, things are interesting from the start as it’s clear the land is doomed and a long-dead king is summoned for help.

It’s not quite clear what caused the devastation that plagues the land, though it’s up to the king to rebuild his kingdom and lead the people back to prosperity. The life sim bits come in as you collect resources, rebuild houses, and slay enemies while bringing the “smallfolk” home.

Here’s the trailer:

While the trailer only shows off the king in somewhat typical garments, the game’s description teases “more powerful equipment” as you explore the lands, vanquish foes, and restore the lands.

“When developing a game, it’s crucial to focus on what players cherish and respect. Classics hold a special place in gamers’ hearts, and we aimed to evoke nostalgia with Kingsgrave. To achieve this, we reimagined old gameplay mechanics, visuals, and gameplay, creating a sense of familiarity for players to enjoy a fresh and positive gaming experience while exploring the game’s world and lore.” – Ivan Tesla, Kingsgrave Producer

Kingsgrave is launching for Windows PC (via Steam) on April 17th. A playable demo will be available in Steam Next Fest, from February 5th through the 12th.
