David Brevik, the creator of the legendary action RPG Diablo, has announced his next game since he parted ways with Blizzard years ago.

The game is basically a hybrid of the 2D metroidvania sandbox game Terraria and his Diablo pedigree, and its set for a Windows PC release (via Steam) sometime this year via his new studio, Graybeard Games.

Here’s a brief rundown on the game:

It Lurks Below is a retro-styled, 2D, action-oriented, survival RPG by David Brevik. Create a custom character and choose from several different classes to delve deep into the mysteries of what evil lurks below. Dig down and explore the randomly generated levels, find random items, and combat deadly monsters to get the answers.

The origin behind the game is Brevik’s love for games like Terraria and Starbound, to which he said that he wished there was “more of a point” to those games.

He initially had a much larger and more complex game planned, but he decided to scale things back so he can just do everything himself. Despite his decades of experience, he still had to learn pixel art for the game.
