Details About Tekken 7’s Lucky Chloe and Shaheen from Katsuhiro Harada Himself

Bandai Namco have been at the Japan Amusement Expo 2015 (which Japanese developers and publishers have turned into quite the newsmaker), and Katsuhiro Harada was at the Expo to demo their newest fighting game, Tekken 7. He’s interviewed in the above video, as we get to watch both Lucky Chloe and Shaheen go up against Kazuya Mishima on the arcade’s screen.

Here is what he has to say about the two new Tekken 7 characters:

Lucky Chloe

Lucky Chloe is quite different visually than any of the other characters in Tekken have been. She moves differently, too, being a dancing type—he mentions “street-style dancing” and “capoeira”, specifically.

She is a very rhythmic fighter—players can’t simply mash buttons. Instead, players need to input commands according to a tempo to bring the best out of this fighter. (His hands demonstrate a standard 4/4 tempo.) To inflict maximum damage or to connect combos, players have to be on rhythm with the buttons and the gameplay.

Chloe does different poses depending on how well players finish a combo: a high punch means “perfect”; for misses, she gives a salute; and for close or lucky calls, she does a cat pose. At 3:43, the miss pose is intentionally demonstrated, and at 5:19, they demonstrate a perfect combo and her accompanying stance.

Harada says that the combos are complicated, so players will feel great when they manage to pull them off. Because this is a completely new kind of character to Tekken, he believes veterans will have a hard time playing as her, but he highly recommends Chloe to new players.

Shaheen

Shaheen is from Saudi Arabia. Throughout the interview, both Harada and the interviewer comment on how handsome and interesting he is.

He is another character that is different from the Tekken norm. He is tall and has a long reach. Players may be thrown off by the way the character moves. He is a top or mid-screen character, and is more versatile with combos than other Tekken characters have been, being able to connect them from many kinds of attacks and positions. He can also cancel out of movements.

At 8:12, a Rage Art is demonstrated, which alters the performance of a single move in Rage Mode. In Arabic, Shaheen says something along the lines of “You’re going down!” or “I’m going to knock you down!”

Harada recommends Shaheen for veteran players of Tekken. The character’s movements will be difficult to pin down in the beginning but, once players do, they can do some impressive damage.
