Bungie have announced the next three expansions for Destiny 2, along with their plans moving forward including the Destiny Content Vault.
Bungie state that Destiny 2 has grown “too large to efficiently update and maintain.” This lead to “more bugs and less innovation.” This also results in larger patches and update sizes, and greater stress on the hard drive capacity.
As such, Bungie have decided that as an alternative to Destiny 3, they will continue to support Destiny 2, by removing “older, less actively played content.” This also enables players to keep their progress, unlike the jump from Destiny to Destiny 2.
Using the Destiny Content Vault (DCV), certain content will be cycled out of the game for new content. The DCV “will include all content from Destiny 1 and anything that cycles out from Destiny 2,” including the destinations Mars, Io, Titan, Mercury and Leviathan – and their supported activities.
As such, there will be new ways to earn the Exotics originally associated with the content that has entered the DCV. Activities and destinations will be brought back each year however. The first of this “unvaulting” will be in Destiny 2‘s Year 4 (from September 22nd), with the return of the Cosmodrome, and the Vault of Glass raid.
The destinations available when the first expansion launches includes Europa (a new destination), Cosmodrome (unvaulted), Moon, Tangled Shore, Dreaming City, European Dead Zone, Nessus.
The DCV will allow Bungie to support Destiny 2 for “years.” It will also allow for the developers to “respond to player feedback more rapidly, enable more innovation, and will keep Destiny 2 and your characters thriving for years to come.” The first of this was the announcement three new expansions.

EXOTIC GEAR
There are those who believe Europa is nothing more than a frozen Golden Age graveyard, its treasures long ago swallowed by ice and darkness. You know better. Beneath the ruins lie countless relics, an arsenal of weapons, and more. Claim this cutting-edge tech from the clutches of time and dare to tame the wasteland.
DEEP STONE CRYPT
Below the frozen tundra of Europa lies the Deep Stone Crypt. For decades it has remained dormant. Your fireteam cautiously approaches, weapons raised, and the final plan is set in motion.
The Beyond expansion launches September 22nd. The Witch Queen expansion launches 2021. The Lightfall expansion launches 2022.
