Multiplayer Sharks vs Divers Shooter Depth Enters Maintenance Mode

Depth

Digital Confectioners have announced that Depth enters maintenance mode and will not receive any more significant new updates.

Depth is a unique underwater multiplayer shooter about divers being chased by hungry sharks. Matches involve a team of divers cooperating to complete objectives while being hunted by a massive and deadly shark. Depth was initially met with a fairly mixed reception when it first released towards the end of 2014.

However, after countless updates and DLC packs, Depth managed to obtain a small but devoted cult following. The game became popular and profitable enough to justify regular updates and special seasonal events. Many of these events were accompanied by season passes and challenges to acquire unique cosmetics. The game also spawned a fairly active modding community.

Unfortunately for long-time fans, Digital Confectioners have announced that Depth enters maintenance mode and its recent Retro-Future Christmas event marks the last new update for the game. Starting in February, Depth‘s seasonal events will just be repeats of previous years. The servers will remain live for now, but Depth will not receive any significant new updates or events.

The developers note in an FAQ that after over 7 years of active development, Depth simply isn’t popular enough to really justify the resources required to keep making new content.

Digital Confectioners have other, currently unannounced projects in development, which is where most of the company’s resources are going. These plans do not involve a Depth 2, as the developers feel they have done pretty much everything they want with the IP already.

Depth is available on Windows PC via Steam and will remain available and playable for the time being.
