It only took nearly five years and over 60 million copies sold, but now Mojang has announced that a default female avatar, complete with various alternate skins, is now available in Minecraft.

The new avatar, dubbed simply Alex, is the Eve to Minecraft’s Adam (Steve). The new female option is selectable across the game’s PlayStation 3, 4, Vita, Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions. Alex comes with eight new skins, each with varying skin and hair colors, as well as clothing and costume options.

“When most players begin their Minecraft adventure there aren’t many looks to choose from. In fact, you only get to play as our blue-shirted friend,” Mojang’s Owen Hill said in the blog post. “Now, everyone loves Steve – he’s probably the most famous minecrafter in the world, and has excellent stubble.

“But jolly old Steve doesn’t really represent the diversity of our playerbase. For that reason, we’re giving all players opportunity to play with an Alex skin instead. She brings thinner arms, redder hair, and a ponytail; she actually looks a bit like [fellow Mojang employee] Jens from certain angles.”

Finally, the new update adds 600 Gamerscore’s worth of Achievements to the Xbox 360-edition of Minecraft, which Xbox One Minecraft users have been enjoying.
