Deep Down Producer Clarifies the Lack of Playable Women

So Deep Down has been making a bit of a stir within the gaming community lately, and it hasn’t been a good type of discussion either. We reported on how the game would lack playable female characters, and then the subsequent insane reactions some of the gaming press had with that bit of news.

That mental breakdown of an article actually got the attention of the folks over at Capcom, so much so that Kazunori Sugiura, the producer of Deep Down, personally took to the game’s official Facebook to clarify the reason why the game would not feature playable female avatars:

We consulted with our overseas subsidiaries since there was a foreign article that mistakenly said that Deep Down would have 12 main characters, all of them men, and that it’s getting really blown out of proportions. I will explain this as I am responsible of the game’s development.

The main protagonist of Deep Down is the only main character, and he’s male. The story will revolve around him and his fellow Ravens. We’re still unsure of an international release, but I am thankful for the attention Deep Down is getting.

Please keep an eye out for more information in the future.

There you have it, folks. I totally called it in my rebuttal to that outrageous article crying sexism, the reason why Deep Down has only men as playable avatars is because there is only one main character – and that character is a man.

Let’s see if this gets spun out of proportion as well – we’ll keep you guys posted.
