Though the last big surge of Deep Down news occurred just a few days ago when a new trailer made its way onto the web, new info has been trickling out about Capcom’s Dark Souls killer every day since then. Of particular note is a recent blurb released in Japan’s weekly issue of Famitsu which describes the game’s dungeons and how they alter your weapons.
Though we already know the dungeons themselves are rather moody and atmospheric, apparently those “moods” will change your weapons in a new so-called “Memento” system. Very little details were released about this new mechanic, but it should add an interesting twist to the typical action RPG feature list.
Also sticking out amongst the news is the revelation that the dungeons of Deep Down will be interconnected…but rather than seeing messages left behind by others the way we do in Dark Souls, we will instead be able to loot the fallen bodies of other players. It’s unknown if this new mechanic will result in the dead player permanently losing their gear, but either way you can’t deny that Deep Down is going to be a worthy challenger to Dark Soul’s hardcore gaming crown.
