If you’re a fan of the open world insanity that is Just Cause, then you’re a fan of the handiwork of the designer from the series, Stefan Ljungquist. Ever since leaving the team at Eidos (now part of Square Enix), he has been working on a new breed of MOBA, one that has definitely piqued my interest.
Deadbreed is a highly customizable, persistent MOBA, meaning you can customize your sentinel from head to toe, and as you play through matches the sentinels you play as will level up and become stronger. The artifacts that you equip level up as well, you can mix and match them to find better builds for each match.
You can view the debut trailer for Deadbreed below:
There are three races, nightbreed, daybreed and halfbreed, each sporting their own special abilities and playstyles. Maps even have customizable options like dungeons, sidequests and PVP quests. Ultimately, Ljungquist wanted to make a MOBA that had more role playing game options, adding:
“I wanted to play a MOBA where I could totally customize how my hero looked and, more importantly played, but I couldn’t find one,” said Ljungquist, adding: “Talking to friends, I realized I wasn’t the only one wanting this, so we decided to make it. Also, this was our chance to make a darker themed MOBA for hardcore gamers like ourselves and bring in some additional RPG gameplay features.”
The game is currently on Steam Greenlight, so if you want to see it release on that platform, go and give them your vote. Honestly, I think it’s awesome to see a MOBA that is trying to do something different.
